Remembering the past - European Memorial Tours of World War Two
2025 marks a number of hugely important anniversaries.
27 January marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, an event that serves as a poignant reminder of the atrocities of the past and the importance of ensuring such history is never forgotten.
08 May marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the end of WWII in Europe.
As we reflect on these anniversaries, we are reminded of the importance of educating younger generations about the lessons of history and the resilience of humanity in the face of unimaginable hardship.
For schools and youth groups, visiting memorial sites connected to World War II offers an invaluable opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of the past, honour those who suffered and build a sense of responsibility to promote tolerance and peace in the future.
ITINERARIES
With this in mind, we have created two thoughtfully curated sample itineraries for group travel, focusing on the memorial sites of World War II. These itineraries are designed to combine educational enrichment with meaningful reflection, providing students with a truly impactful experience.
Both of these itineraries can be adapted for specific group needs, including shortening the tours, adding in alternative visits and amending the inclusions to include performances, for example. However, we hope they may serve as a starting point for discussions with groups.
As we commemorate this important anniversary, let us continue to honour the past and help shape a future built on peace, compassion, and education.
