April is a month of renewal here in Europe. As spring breathes new life into our landscapes, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on another great era of rebirth — the Renaissance. Emerging in the 14th century, this extraordinary cultural movement reshaped art, science, architecture, and learning across the continent. From magnificent cathedrals to masterpieces that still inspire the world today, this month’s wallpapers celebrate destinations where the spirit of the Renaissance can still be felt in every square, gallery, and skyline..

Wallpaper number 1 takes us first to Venice in Italy. During the Renaissance, Venice was one of Europe’s wealthiest and most influential trading powers. Its prosperity helped fund extraordinary artistic achievements, visible today in the elegant palaces lining the Grand Canal and the splendour of St Mark’s Square.

Wallpaper number 2 takes us further afield. The Renaissance spread beyond Italy and inspired magnificent architecture across Europe. The Château de Chambord in France’s Loire Valley is one of its most striking examples, blending medieval fortifications with elegant Renaissance design.

Wallpaper number 3 - Kraków flourished during the Renaissance as the royal capital of Poland and one of Central Europe’s most important cultural centres. The elegant arcaded courtyard of Wawel Castle and the grandeur of the Cloth Hall in the Main Market Square reflect the spread of Renaissance ideas far beyond Italy.

And, in this month’s bonus wallpaper, we stay in Central Europe, where families decorate intricately patterned Easter eggs known as pisanki. The tradition dates back centuries and symbolises new life, renewal, and the arrival of spring. We wish you a Happy Easter!
